This is a hands on role, one filled with variety and demanding action. High level communication and negotiation skills are crucial as you’ll be advocating for and working with people from diverse backgrounds with problems often needing urgent attention.
You need to be passionate and empathetic, a good listener and team leader; a motivator with a consultative style.
Fundamental attributes: Excellent numeracy and financial literacy skills, as well as confidence in negotiating with creditors and financial institutions. You need to be flexible and solution focussed. You need to work well with both individuals and groups.
Essential: An Australian Diploma in Financial Counselling is essential, as is prior proven experience in a similar role. You must also possess a current drivers’ licence and access to a registered, roadworthy, insured vehicle.
